Have you ever walked into a house or room that was clearly themed? Maybe it was a friends room, where every conceivable inch of wall was covered in sports posters or music bands. Maybe it was your grandmothers house, where China, dolls, pictures, and other things rested in every prominent place. Whatever the case, you assume they care immensley about these things.
Personally, when I see these rooms I am a little disgusted. "This is TOO much of an obsession I say." This was my initial reaction when I walked into a certain house last summer that belonged to a couple of missionaries. On most walls, on many decorations, and just latent in the fabric of the house I saw bible verses, Christian principles, and encouragement.
But of course, I had to think. Is this obsession warranted?
Ask yourself this - what percentage of your time do you act under the motivation Gods kingdom? I mean, in a general sense, knowing that because of Gods love you can fear nothing and want nothing for yourself, and that living for him will literally bring you the greatest joy in this life and the future? Whatever it is that you wish you remembered all time, how often do you remember it?
The flesh is weak, my friends. This body we live in is plagued by sin, weakness, and will waste away much sooner than we'd like. We groan under the burden of this body, eagerly awaiting our new body. (1 Cor 5, Rom 8:23+)
Therefore, take all steps you think necessary to keep yourself reminded of Gods truth. In fact, take more steps than necessary with exceeding and joyful liberty. Positively drown your house, your workplace, you places of free time and socialization with reminders of the gospel - to the extent that you are allowed, of course.
Let us suppose that a cooky millionare had decided to give you $10,000 for every time you noticed the word "certainly", but you knew that you had a habit of forgetting. Would you not positively DRILL your mind with this idea? Would you not paste every inch of everything you owned with reminders? In the same way, every moment you are reminded of God and live for eternity, you may add someone else to your heavenly home or add another privilege in heaven to yourself.
Food is only a symbol for the Bread of Life and water for Living Water, your earthly home cannot compare to the house that the builder of the universe has been working on for two millennium, and love you share with your spouse is only a symbol and a foretaste, a holding over, until we are finally united with the true Bridegroom.
Ensure that you eagerly desire the spiritual things, for though there is great opportunity in this world, it will perish at any time.
