heart of my own heart

Song: Be Thou My Vision, one of the last verses "Heart of my own heart whatever befall"

The phrase 'invite Jesus into your heart' is often used for new birth/salvation etc. However, having experienced it recently (3 days ago) as a reenlivening of my faith, I think it should be rephrased. God does not just come into your heart. What are you, puny human non-spiritual hunk of space-filled particles? Ezekiel 36:26 "I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees."
God doesn't come into your heart, your heart becomes his heart. You literally (though not physically) get the heart of God. Amazing!

Here I describe what I feel in terms of physical manifestation of a new heart. It's like a living things inside of you, reaching our through your flesh and telling you where to go and what to do. That may sound like a zombie but it's the Holy spirit, and I will certainly admit I don't feel like this much of the time, but it's still there.

Anyway, ask God to take your heart of stone (for me it felt like a long slug of melted and re hardened metal) and ask him to give you a heart of flesh, his heart.

I have pasted below the full song, which is amazing even without the music.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
